To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

Winslow Homer
Are you surprised? I was. It is not that I only expect seascapes from Winslow Homer, but I think of his work as being more dramatic and in a bolder pallet. Never-the-less, this does capture a perfect autumn day, in New England.
I also imagine it may make more than a few of us nostalgic, in these days of on-line classes and home schooling.
The painting lives at the National Gallery, in Washington, D.C.; and yes I photographed it before the pandemic.
Art can never exist without naked beauty displaced.
