Gloucester Fisherman’s Memorial
“They that go down to the sea in ships.”
1623-1923
By chance, we stopped in Gloucester, Massachusetts, where we happened to spot this very familiar View from the Road: The Gloucester Fisherman’s Memorial.
The memorial includes bronze plaques that list the names and dates of people who perished at sea; from the area.
I will confess that before our visit, I had not realized it was a memorial, rather, I knew the image or a close facsimile of it, from Gorton’s frozen fish sticks boxes; which happens to be in the same town.
“Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the mighty waters; they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous works in the deep.
For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea.”
~ Psalms 23-24 ~
