To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

The Olive Orchard
by
Vincent Van Gogh

This is perhaps one of the artist most subtile paintings; but one that has always appealed to me. Yes, I have fond memories of picking olives in Greece, which certainly endears me to the subject matter; but my appreciation for this piece is about more than its setting.

I am intrigued by the portion of the work which makes up the all but empty sky, and drawn to the curvaceous women and trees which blend together seamlessly. There is an understated serenity in painting of women at work in the harvest.

Art can never exist without naked beauty displaced.
