Happy 4th of July

Normally, this is a post which I quite enjoy writing, and whether I mark the occasion in “Art” or “Public Square”, or here in “Holiday’s”, it is just a joyful and uncomplicated wish for a Happy 4th of July to you!

But this year everything is different.  I could never have imagined that our country would be in such turmoil, trying desperately to discard so much of our history.

I do not fee like debating public art, but what I will say is that one of the things, which makes us all powerful, is that we are overcomers of adversity.  To me, much of that art serves as a reminder of where we have come from and what we have created, even despite of what some of the art may represent.  We are no longer living in that world; it is our past.

I know this year has brought enough adversity to everyone, for a life time. For most of us, there will be no firework displays or family barbeques; even trips to the beach and National Parks are out of the question.  But we can still celebrate what those brave men and women sacrificed in 1776, to give us all the right to salute our flag or even protest against it.

I really do wish you a Happy 4th of July!
