Happy Groundhog Day
“When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn’t imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.”
~ Phil Connors ~
Groundhog Day
This is not Punxsutawney Phil, from Pennsylvania, who supposedly predicts whether or not winter will last another six weeks, if he sees his shadow when he surfaces from his earthen hideaway.
I am of course always in favor of an early spring and the hope of a long hot summer, which was what this fellow was enjoying when I spotted him New Hampshire, months back.
If you are looking for a silly and joyful movie to mark the day, by all means watch Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day, it will bring a smile to your face whether Phil sees his shadow or not.
